Balaclava School is a medium sized primary school (270 pupils) located in Dunedin, one of the main centres in the South Island of New Zealand. We are often described as "a country school in the city" as we have 5 acres of grounds and a strong supportive school community.

Message from the Principal

I am proud to be the principal of a school that strives to ensure all students have access to a curriculum that engages children and fosters a lifelong love of learning. The Balaclava School team works hard to ensure each child can reach his or her potential.

In 2015 I joined the Balaclava School team, after 16 years of teaching and leadership positions in primary schools in Central Otago and England. I have a passion for supporting students reach their potential and creating opportunities for students and staff to succeed.

We believe that “Building Values and Achievement” is pivotal in helping our students get ready for the next step in their education. Through promoting a growth mindset and GRIT (resilience) our students can become the problem solvers of today and the future.

As a school we look forward to welcoming you into our school community and working with you to provide the best learning opportunities for your child.

Regards,

Gary Marsh

Principal
